Eve Turner, a Southampton-based executive and business coach, is seeking support to complete the analysis of data from a study of coaching within organisations. The research, which has been carried out using SurveyMonkey, has had around 800 responses across 3, similar questionnaires, one for coaches (which has the largest response rate), one for coaching clients and one for organisations that use coaching. Some of the quantitative analysis has been done, but there was scope for respondents to offer written comments. The questionnaire for coaches has a large number written into several questions, at times up to 300 comments! So the work will involve content analysis of these written survey responses to identify key themes and then to write up summaries. There is also a small amount of quantitative analysis remaining to be done and provided in tables, graphs, charts etc. as appropriate, and in pdf, Excel and Word formats.
The indicative pay is £20 per hour for an anticipated 20 or so hours of work, supervised by Eve to start as soon as possible. The findings will remain the intellectual property of the principal investigators. Whilst the data analyst will not have the right to be identified as a research author or use the data themselves to publish independently, their contribution will be acknowledged.
The research examines the effectiveness of business and executive where the organisation is involved in setting the objectives and evaluating the success of the coaching. Often coaching outcomes are determined by the individual client but in a business context, where the organisation is sponsoring and paying for the coaching, this can lead to a 3-way or even 4-way conversation and involvement. To date no one has researched the impact from the point of view of 1) the coach 2) the individual client and 3) the organisation. The research has the support of the main international coaching professional bodies, a number of multi-national organisations and the leading coaching magazine.
Once this analysis is completed the next stage of the research is likely to be virtual focus groups and possibly some semi-structured interviews. There may be an opportunity to get involved with this if the successful analyst would like to. The key aim is to produce guidelines for best practice for all three respondent groups to make business and executive coaching as effective as possible. Papers, articles, conference presentations and a book chapter are also planned.
