Dear Glen,
I recently ran a survey for my ongoing PhD research.
I got around 500 responses.
To the question "Do you actively try to find ways to enhance your creativity?", aprox. 14% answered "No".
There was a followup question to that, the results of which you can find in the picture attached.
...and there was an open "Other" field, which 27 respondents used, each with a unique answer (though many were very similar). These go from "acting classes" to "drugs" and "I just keep my eyes open every day".
Of course this study was done with a convenience sample, but the picture is a bit dim in this particular area.
The sample was mostly graphic/communication designers, though there were a few industrial designers and some from other fields.
From what I can see around me and from this study, I would say that now I have evidence that most designers don't really give that much thought to further learning, other than throught what they are already engaged with at their work.
Best regards,
