*An Afternoon with Iris: life, Thought, Writing.*
Saturday 6 December 2014, 3 p.m. start.
Venue: OPEN Norwich, 28 Castle Meadow, NR1 3DS
Iris Murdoch was a much loved cultural figure, but are we doing her
justice? This interdisciplinary workshop will explore her philosophy and
her literature, asking what role interest in her life plays in
understanding her thought and her novels. The discussion will address
gender issues and the representation of women intellectuals.
The event will end with a screening of the film *Iris* by Richard Eyre,
serving as focus to ask if Murdoch’s life as unconventional young woman,
later in life affected by Alzheimer’s, may overshadow or distort her
intellectual achievement.
Free event. Refreshments provided. *Places are limited*. To register,
