Hey Nick
I'm forever pimping CG when I see smaller sized institutions - yes, you
owe me many beers - and I think the questions they tend to ask are:
- "why" - what do I / we get as an institution for doing this (my
answer: SEO, a consolidated / central place for your stuff, automatic
upload and exposure to Europeana, etc)
- "how much does it cost"? - interestingly until recently I thought I
knew the answer but now I'm not 100% sure if there are costs (I need to
look at your website)
- "how do I do it, and is it hard?": answer, no, but it's certainly
harder than not doing it - see the "why" again...
The why is crucial, right? I mean - it's extra effort, so the benefits
need to be writ really clear - I'd (with my web hat on) say you need
really clear stuff here: "X institution found 400% more visits to their
collections pages once they'd drunk the CultureGrid koolaid" - sorry to
be a bit Marketing - but, yes, "calls to action"...
What are you seeing from your website? I don't think it can answer all
your questions but might give pointers. I'm sure you've got goals set up
in GA (right..!?) - and you may see some interesting stuff about where
people drop off / convert? What have you done marketing wise - do you
_have_ these "why's" somewhere - does it _actually_ help get more
traffic to collections information? Or are there other benefits?
Head full of thoughts but other stuff to do - phone or something, always
happy to chat ;-)
Mike
