It feels like bespoke development to me, but slightly depends on how
you're storing your archived stuff.
If they're in normal Posts then it's possible you'll get away with
something like
https://wordpress.org/plugins/the-events-calendar/
Which - IIRC - uses ordinary posts as the basis for the calendar items.
But it's been a while since I used this, so may not be the case.
The one we've used with some success on other sites (not client ones,
but personal) is:
http://wp-events-plugin.com/
Finally - if you do go the bespoke route then you could do the calendar
using http://fullcalender.io and populate it using a JSON feed which is
powered by a Wordpress "Events" Custom Post Type - that's what we did on
http://americanmuseum.org/whats-on/full-events-listing/ (see calendar on
RHS).
