Yorkshire Dance, the University of Leeds & Breakfast Creatives
invite everyone, everywhere, to respond_
People across the world are invited to get online and help dance artist Robbie Synge create his new piece of work, ‘Douglas’ between Friday 14 November (midday) and Friday 21 November.
He’s posted a film of the work-in-progress at www.respondto.org<http://www.respondto.org/> and he’s inviting anyone, anywhere in the world, to interact with him.
This new website is a digital adaptation of Critical Response Process, which is a four-step method of structuring feedback in the arts (and subsequently used in all kinds of other scenarios), created by renowned choreographer Liz Lerman.
On Thursday 20 November, as part of the Critical Response Process, you'll be able to join a live webchat with Robbie and Liz Lerman herself, so we recommend you get started as soon as possible before then!
This is the second time Robbie’s shared his work-in-progress. Since the last time, in September, he’s been back in the studio developing the work with all your feedback, questions and opinions in his head. And when this week’s process is over, he’ll go back into the studio for the last time, preparing ‘Douglas’ for its world premiere performances at Yorkshire Dance, Leeds, on Friday 5 & Saturday 6 December.
It doesn’t matter at all how much or how little you know about contemporary dance – it’s as useful for Robbie to hear from people new to it as it is to hear from experts!
So everyone’s invited to visit www.respondto.org<http://www.respondto.org/> and find out how it works. Come and join in!

respond_ is a joint project by Yorkshire Dance, University of Leeds and Breakfast Creatives, chosen by Nesta, Arts Council England and Arts and Humanities Research Council as one of over 60 partnerships to receive funding from the £7 million Digital R&D Fund for the Arts. www.respondto.org<http://www.respondto.org/>
The respond_ team are researching whether an online adaptation of the Critical Response Process can deepen audiences’ understanding of and engagement with dance and their empathy with artists; can it expand the audience reach of new dance works; can it benefit the creation and development process of new artworks?
