Hi Robin -

I have no wish to trouble folks with the minutea of the mechanics of book printing, however please rest assured that we have looked into secure e-publications on several occasions and in principle I agree with you. However there are problems with some corporate / public body IT systems being able to cope with secure PDFs and the like. Of course if anyone knows differently then do getback to me (without troubling the entire forum unless you specifically feel the need to)! If the license number system works on this edition then that might be something to think about next time around.

In an ideal world our work would be publically funded and freely available however that has not been the case for any of the three editions of LQM/CIEH criteria. So the sector needs to accept that and decide if it wishes to use these values (and pay a tiny fraction of the cost of producing them for the right to use them for commercial or regulatory purposes) or to derive their own values and go back to where we were before 2006 when regulators faced huge challenges in trying to decipher the validity or otherwise of in house values.

Oh - and Chris' suggestion of TWO volumes is also one we have considered but it would put the price of the book(s) up by about another £30-00 JUST for the printing, postage and packing!

For 6 land uses and 89 substances (never mind the different SOM values) it works out at MUCH less than £1 per substance if you buy the book even at the full price (there is an early bird offer on at the moment).

best regards

Paul

Paul,

In the interests of sustainability, instead of producing a hard copy which is cumbersome and lies around the office, prone to damage and takes up space why not produce an electronic copy. It's understandable that you wish to retain copyright over you bible but in this day and age, I'm sure it wouldn't be impossible licence a encoded, un-replicable electronic copy for single licence use by the purchaser.

Regards,

RMack.

Dear Chris,

The text is with the printer who is working hard to bind what will be the largest edition of generic assessment criteria ever published in the UK - more land uses and more substances than ever before. However it is so large they are having to find a new method of binding!

Glad you're so keen to receive your copy - and Well done for taking advantage of the pre publication offer that ended last month.

Best regards,

Paul

PS folks don't forget to take advantage of the early bird offer only available from the lqm website http://www.lqm.co.uk/publications/s4uleb/

Hello Judith

You predicted the 3rd week of November for publication..

It's now week 4 - any update you can provide?

Thanks

Chris Dainton
