Salary details: £22,443 - £26,539
Job term: Full Time
Appointment type: Fixed Term until 1st July 2016.
Having received an award from the National Cataloguing Grants programme, the Dorset History Centre (DHC) is looking to recruit an experienced archivist for an 18 month fixed term contract to deliver a project to catalogue the archives of Poole Borough. This collection reflects Poole's long history as Dorset's principal port with strong trading links with Newfoundland and was awarded the status of a county borough by Elizabeth I in 1568.
The collection includes public and manorial records; records of the Newfoundland trade, early dissenters and protestant colonies in the Americas; post-war slum clearance and the development of modern Poole; evacuees and civil defence; the evolution of the town as a resort; the development of the harbour over 500 years.
This is a large collection which will require working with volunteers and other staff at the Dorset History Centre to deliver. You must have a postgraduate qualification in Archive Administration and experience of cataloguing preferably using CALM. You will need to be able to plan and prioritise the cataloguing work, work well in a team and with volunteers and have the ability to read and interpret early borough and local government archives.
