Dear Lorraine
At the moment we only agree to post-graduation name changes in relation to transgender. Otherwise once the certificate has been produced we will not change it.
Best wishes

Subject: Student name changes
Dear colleagues
We have had a number of recent requests from former students who have changed their name by deed poll, and are asking for their names on their certificates to be changed to reflect their new name.
Our current policy is that we do not change names on certificates once students have completed their studies, and advise that they should be able to present the certificate alongside the deed poll to evidence that it is theirs. The only retrospective changes that we would make are where an administrative error has occurred or where the University is required to make a retrospective change under the provisions of the Gender Recognition Act 2004.
Students are advising that other institutions have accommodated their request for a certificate in their new name, and we would like to gauge whether we need to review our existing policy.
Please can you advise whether your institution allows name changes once a student has completed, and if there are any circumstances you would not change the name.
I am happy to collate and circulate responses.
Many thanks
