DEPARTMENT OF VETERINARY MEDICINE
WEST CAMBRIDGE SITE
Postdoctoral Research Associate in Statistical Epidemiology
Salary: £27,854.00 - £36,298.00
Limit of Tenure: 18 months
An exciting opportunity exists for a postdoctoral scientist to join the Disease Dynamics Unit in the Department of Veterinary Medicine. The post-holder will work on a study to identify factors associated with the detection of new bovine tuberculosis breakdowns via abattoir surveillance in Great Britain. The post is available from 1 March 2014.
Led by Professor James Wood, the main objective of the project is for the post-holder to develop spatio-temporal statistical models to explore the mechanisms behind the recent rise in the levels of slaughterhouse-detected bTB infections on cattle farms. The project will provide important information for policy makers and also will help improve knowledge about the biological mechanisms underlying bTB spread.
Candidates should hold a PhD (or equivalent) in statistics, epidemiology or a closely related discipline. Experience of the use of Bayesian statistical methods, spatio-temporal modelling and programming in R and C (or equivalent) is highly desirable.
