A final reminder of today's seminar by George Leckie, taking place at SPHSU in Glasgow:
Thursday 13th November: Monitoring school performance: A multilevel value-added modelling alternative to England’s ‘expected progress’ measure
Speaker: Dr George Leckie (http://www.bristol.ac.uk/cmm/team/leckie.html) from the Centre for Multilevel Modelling at the University of Bristol
Summary: Since 1992, the UK Government has published so-called ‘school league tables’ summarizing the average educational attainment and progress made by pupils in each state-funded secondary school in England. In 2011 the Government made ‘expected progress’ their new headline measure of school progress. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the data underlying the Government’s 2013 tables, in order to statistically critique expected progress and contrast it with the multilevel ‘value-added’ modelling approach.
Time: 17.30-18:30, followed by drinks and nibbles
Place: Ben Cruachan seminar room, MRC/CSO Social and Public Health Sciences Unit, University of Glasgow, top floor, Herald Building, 200 Renfield Street, Glasgow, G2 3QB.
****** NB Note the news address. The MRC-SPHSU has moved to the centre of Glasgow, where it shares a building with the Herald and Evening times newspapers. When you reach the square pictured in this link (http://bit.ly/1122X8x), go through the revolving door towards the left of the picture, and you’ll be directed to the seminar.******
