We use redundant sample that would be discarded following the intended analysis, for instance if a blood gas was being performed we would situate a trial analyser next to a working analyser and put the sample through before discarding.

Subject: Patient consent / ethics
Dear All
I would like to know what other Trust's experiences are when it comes to comparisons of POCT results with laboratory methods for validation and accreditation purposes. Do you obtain patient consent due to the requirement for extra blood samples? And if not, how do you justify this? Our IG team seem to get quite hot on the ethics side of things as well as information governance.
Kind regards
