italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
AAIS Conference, March 26-29, 2015, Boulder, Colorado
EXTENDED DEADLINE, 20 DECEMBER: Trinkets, Knicknacs, Pens, Paper and More: Material Culture and Gendered Space in Italy
Organizers: Ombretta Frau (Holyoke College) and Cristina Gragnani (Temple University)
Chair: Cristina Gragnani
Our session would like to invite papers that explore the interconnections between female intellectuals’ material culture, their private space, their access to the public sphere and the impact of the new media revolution on women’s social status in Italy in the years between Italian unification and the Second World War. We are interested in the way objects can define a personality, a space, a life. Spaces could/should include intellectual/writing spaces, working spaces, eating/cooking spaces, clothing, décor.
Papers can be in Italian or English. Presenters do not need to be members of the WSC.
Please submit a short description (250 words) and a brief CV to Ombretta Frau ([log in to unmask]) and Cristina Gragnani ([log in to unmask]) by December 20.
