We're undergoing tricky renewal periods at present in the NHS with national deals in process, regional deals in process or on hold awaiting national deal decisions and then local decisions awaiting what the other two decisions are... On top of that our financial year is April to March. Plus we use subscription agents who offer discounts if we hand them money up front for the next calendar year - and we know how much trouble that has caused this year.... And this always make me think - why oh why do we, the customer, have to comply with academic publishing's rigorous norm of demanding a year's subscription upfront for January to December?
I take out a personal subscription to Runners World (I read it and feel a lot fitter) and am not committed to a whole calendar year - in fact I can pay quarterly upfront - so some publishers are very astute and flexible with subscriptions.
Do any publishers on this list have any comment on this archaic calendar subscription payment demand?
Regards
Andy
