Thomas Glave: 'Jamaica: Dangerous Sex and Dead Men Walking'

The Cambridge English Faculty is delighted to welcome Professor Thomas Glave
to speak at our Postcolonial Seminar on 25 November 2014.
Thomas Glave has been a Visiting Fellow at Clare Hall, Cambridge, and
Martin Luther King Jr. Visiting Professor at MIT. He is presently
Leverhulme Visiting Professor at the Yesu Persaud Centre for Caribbean
Studies at the University of Warwick. The recipient of several awards, he
is the author of four books and editor of "Our Caribbean: A Gathering of
Lesbian and Gay Writing from the Antilles"(Lambda Literary Award winner,
2008). A founding member of the Jamaica Forum for Lesbians, All-Sexuals,
and Gays (J-FLAG), his most recent book is "Among the Bloodpeople: Politics
and Flesh"(2013).
The title of Professor Glave's Cambridge talk is 'Jamaica: Dangerous Sex
and Dead Men Walking'. The presentation will look at the use of Jamaican
language regarding 'taboo' forms of sex(uality), as well as the actual
dangers involved in 'unspeakable' sorts of sex(uality).
The event will be of special interest to postcolonialists and anyone
working on sexuality and gender.
