Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Urban Planning and Policy

The Department of Urban Planning and Policy in the College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs at the University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking applications for a tenure-track position in transportation planning at the Assistant Professor level. Candidates for this position will teach graduate courses in Urban Planning as well as undergraduate courses in Urban and Public Affairs. Appointments will begin August 2015 or shortly thereafter.
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in urban planning or a closely related field including, but not limited to, geography, sociology, public policy, economics, or architecture. Priority will be given to scholars who study transportation policy with interests in transit systems and non-motorized transportation, who are interdisciplinary in scope (with possible connections to public health, environmental policy, demography, public finance, urban design and land use, or urban sensing and computing), and who have strong visualization and spatial and policy analysis skills. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to innovative graduate and undergraduate education, possess broad knowledge of contemporary planning practices, and show a promising record of research and publication.

The Urban Planning and Policy Department, with 200 students, offers two graduate degrees, the Master of Urban Planning and Policy degree and the Ph.D. in Urban Planning and Policy, and one undergraduate degree in Urban and Public Affairs. Concentrations include: community development, economic development, globalization and international planning, spatial planning, environmental planning, and urban transportation. In addition, the Department operates the Urban Data Visualization Lab and is affiliated with the Institute for Environmental Science and Policy.
