Hi everyone,
I have a question about how to prepare a segment map in Depthmap which I hope you could help. The main problem is"my segment map" has 'too many' segments at the end. I mean, even a straight line will be transformed to several segments. And this is not consistent across the network.
The steps I do to create a 'segment map' (and do the angular analysis) in Depthmap are as below:
1- I have the shapefile of the roads. Of note, all segments look right in this file. In ArcMap I export this shapefile to DXF.
2- In Depthmap, I import the DXF.
3- Then, "Convert drawing map" into a "Data Map". At this stage, still all segments look ok when I select them. I mean, I have proper segments between intersections.
4- Convert 'data map' into 'segment map'. Here I tried with both 'copy attributes to new map' and without it. The segment map doesnt look like right, and it's the problem. There are many straight lines which have been transformed into segments.
So, could you please let me know:
a - Why this happens?
b - Going through previous topics and Professor Penn's comment, this is not correct. Because, it add inconsistencies. So, what we can do to solve it?
c- Could you please mention the exact proper steps we need to do to build the 'segment map' for an angular analysis, considering we have the road-center line data in shapefile?
Thanks a lot.
