Job Announcement
Research Associate (Social Science) £28,695-£37,394
Funds for this post are available until 31 December 2016 in the first instance
This is an outstanding opportunity for a talented and motivated social scientist to join the Cambridge Institute of Public Health to develop and support ethnographic/qualitative research on the Medical Research Council's UK Dementias Platform (UKDP). The UKDP is a public-private partnership led by the Medical Research Council. It is a big-data platform harnessing data from 2 million participants in 22 UK cohorts for the creation of a dedicated trials- ready cohort. UKDP provides a unique social science opportunity to explore the significant methodological issues of big data alongside the illness experiences of individuals, their families and the groups that represent them and to explore innovative methods for the establishment of relevant and timely feedback mechanisms regarding acceptability and feasibility of proposed interventions. Furthermore it is a significant opportunity to explore these themes alongside the ethical and social implications of transitioning participation from observational research to experimental medicine. The addition of this new Research Associate post will boost development of a specialised ethnographic sociological team and is an exciting opportunity to develop a track record in this important field.
