Date: 05 November 2014
Time: 16-18.00pm
Venue: Room 441, Parkside Campus, Millennium Point, Birmingham, B4
This month we welcome Pedro Cravinho, Universidade de Aveiro, and Dr Ruth Page, Reader in English, University of Leicester
Pedro will be presenting: Jazz and Television in Portugal (1956-1974)
The objective of this research is to understand the scope and potential of this new technology – television – in the introduction and dissemination of jazz music in the Portuguese television. What programmes devoted exclusively to jazz music were featured on the broadcasting schedule? When were they broadcast? Who were the principal contributors? Were these programmes censored?
Ruth will present: Retweets and Rapport in Twitter-based Audience Engagement: Audiencing and Micro-celebrity in Responses to the British and American series of The X Factor
This paper considers the retweets posted to the micro-blogging site, Twitter, as a resource for rapport and positioning used by the audiences associated with the television show, The X Factor. Retweets are a distinctive phenomenon where one Twitter member forwards the message previously posted by another, with or without modification (boyd et al. 2011).
