Dear MCGers,
With apologies for cross-posting, please see below an announcement of a new seminar which we will be running next February on the impact of recent changes in Copyright law on museums.
New Copyright Seminar will address impact of major exemption changes on museums
21 October 2014
The impact of reforms to copyright exceptions introduced on 1 October 2014 which directly affect museums will be explained at a new seminar being launched by the Collections Trust in partnership with copyright and IP specialist Naomi Korn.
The seminar will take place on Wednesday 18 February 2015 in the Cubic Theatre at the London Transport Museum in London. Places are limited and the delegate fee is £250 (plus VAT). More details and online booking are online at www.collectionstrust.org.uk/copyright-seminar.
During the seminar Naomi Korn will provide an in-depth analysis of the new copyright landscape and an insight into the new orphan works licensing scheme. Joint presenter Nick Poole, the Collections Trust's CEO and former Chair of the Museum Copyright Group, will focus on the latest Collections Trust research on open licensing and commercial reuse.
The seminar has been specially developed for professionals who work with collections and copyright in museums and galleries. They include trustees, senior management, heads of IP and licensing, heads of image libraries, finance directors, and copyright specialists. By attending the seminar delegates will become fully informed and up-to-date with the very latest developments in copyright and IP management, their implications and how museums can benefit.
The programme will comprise formal presentations and open discussion sessions, with opportunities throughout the day to raise specific issues. Time will be allocated during refreshment breaks for delegates and speakers to network.
To support the seminar, the Collections Trust's Copyright: A Practical Guide will be updated by co-author Naomi Korn. It will reflect the latest copyright reforms so it provides an authoritative guide and prime reference source. The second edition of this best-selling title will be launched at the seminar and available in hard copy and eBook formats.
