Frank Land sent a message to the UKAIS jiscmail list about a gallery opening at the V&A (that's London) on the Information Age, or called that, whatever that might mean.
As chance has it, the EconoMist in parallel had a supplement on Technology and the World Economy, which turned out to be the third industrial revolution, the digital one, whatever those might mean.
I had a meeting with the President of the Royal Archaeological Institute shortly afterwards when I suggested that the Archaeology of the Information Age, or Information Age Archaeology might be a topic for a future session. His planning timeline is more than 18 months, so adaptable to the information age they are not; I mentioned the planned visit Frank suggested and he proposed that a shared visit might be an attractor which could be promoted through RAI channels.
This is I think of lis-link interest too....The world of the RAI etc appears to be oblivious to the role of the library, and has stopped indexing the journal, which is another story in turn. Since then I've started to document the issue.

Subject: SUNCAT: The British Museum joins as latest contributing library
**Apologies for cross posting**
SUNCAT - Serials Union CATalogue for the UK research community
We are delighted to welcome the British Museum
(http://www.britishmuseum.org/research/libraries_and_archives.aspx) as a new SUNCAT contributing library. This addition brings the total number of contributing libraries to 99, plus the CONSER database, the ISSN register and the Directory of Open Access Journals.
The British Museum has a number of departmental libraries, including those
of:
- Anthropology Library and Research Centre
- Ancient Egypt and Sudan
- Asia, Pacific and Africa
- Coins and Medals
- Conservation and Scientific Research
- Greece and Rome
- Middle East
The Anthropology Library is one of the world's major specialist anthropology libraries. Formed by the amalgamation of the Museum's Ethnography library and the library of the Royal Anthropological Institute (RAI) it now contains over 120,000 volumes, covering all aspects of anthropology, but with a particular strength in material culture. The collection covers the whole world and the library continues to collect both domestic and overseas material, where appropriate. It is renowned for its extensive journal
collection: over 1,500 periodical titles are currently subscribed to with approximately 4,000 titles held in total. The holdings are used as the basis for the Anthropological Index Online which is produced by the RAI.
The Library of the Department of Ancient Egypt and Sudan ranks among the top five libraries for Egyptology worldwide and has a particularly strong collection of older material (including journals going back to the nineteenth century), museum and exhibition catalogues (around 1,800 items), auction catalogues, and the Nubia and Sudan section.
The library of the Department of Coins and Medals is one of the world's leading numismatic libraries, reflecting the scope of the department's comprehensive collections and interests. These range from the history of numismatics and its origins in antiquarianism to contemporary art medals and badges. The Library contains around 20,000 books, journals, pamphlets and sales catalogues representing a global coverage of numismatics, economics and associated background.
The Prehistory and Europe departmental library collection covers the Palaeolithic period around the world, the Neolithic, Bronze and Iron ages in Europe, the Roman occupation of Britain, Byzantium, the Early and Late Medieval period in both Britain and the continent and the European decorative arts from the Renaissance to the twentieth century. In 2010 the department created a new serials library to house its 600 runs of journals and periodicals. This part of the collection is particularly strong in European and British regional archaeology, with some publications going back to the eighteenth century.
The library of the Department of Prints and Drawings contains some 50,000 books and periodicals dealing with Western prints and drawings. The particular strengths of the library lie in oeuvre catalogues of printmakers'
work. There are extensive runs of most major art periodicals and an important collection of British and foreign art auction catalogues, ranging in date from the early 1700s to the present day.
The British Museum have contributed just under 5200 records to SUNCAT.

Subject: Jisc Monitor Follow-on Webinar-2 (for Sprint 2): Invitation
Dear Colleagues:
Apologies for cross posting
The second webinar, following on from the workshop on the 19th of September at Jisc's London offices, is set to take place on Wednesday, the 15th of October from 10:00-11:00. It continues with its focus on the second sprint of the Jisc Monitor Technical Developments. Here is the link to the Blackboard platform, which we have recently moved to, away from Webex:
Link for participants:

Jisc Monitor is a one-year project which started in May 2014, with the aim to explore how a Jisc managed shared service might support institutions in meeting HEFCE's policy on Open Access for the Post-2014 REF. The project is scoping and building proof of concept prototypes to respond to specific use cases. Prototypes will be used to assess the feasibility of developing a service, to scope that service if there is a clearly articulated need for one and to identify priorities for the service. As such, these webinars are our continuing engagement with key stakeholders, to encourage participation and collaboration in order to explore design and development of a service for HEI. The four use-cases include:
* Monitoring all publication activity to ensure compliance with funder mandates
* Monitoring publication activity to understand what has been published
* Monitoring spend, and
* Standards development to enable efficient data exchange.
The workshop and these fortnightly follow-on webinars are looking at the second set of the two use cases this time around, monitoring spend and standards development. Additional information will be sent later, prior to the webinar; however, here is a link to the recording of our previous webinar (from 1st of October 2014): https://ca-sas.bbcollab.com/mr.jnlp?suid=M.490D769D9B426D618124950E8382A5&sid=2009077.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
Thank you.
All the best,
Frank

Designed to enhance inter-personal skills and understanding of our customers’ or users’ needs, the day will incorporate a mixture of practice (don’t worry - no role play!) and theory, all delivered in a relaxed and entertaining way. Themes will include:
*What is customer care?
* Difficult behaviours
* How communication works
* Handling challenging situations
* Understanding our customers
* Trust
* Creative problem solving
* Solutions finding
* Evaluation methods
Feedback from participants at previous Improving the Customer Experience training days include:
“Offered some good reflective practice, thinking strategies and useful problem solving models”
