UKSG is pleased to announce that we will be holding the following seminar at the British Library next month:
UKSG Working with Resource Description and Access (RDA): an overview for serials
Wednesday 12 November 2014
The British Library, Boston Spa
Course summary
This one-day seminar aims to present an overview of Resource Description and Access (RDA), the new cataloguing standard, and how it relates specifically to serials cataloguing. The emphasis is on giving a detailed overview of Resource Description and Access (RDA) for serials. The session will not aim to teach you all you need to know about RDA - it is a starting point and will, during the workshop session, give attendees the opportunity to discuss real examples and look at the type of records they are likely to encounter.
Why you should attend
Resource Description and Access (RDA) was published in 2010 and is the new cataloguing code designed to implement the Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR). It supersedes the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules (AACR2) which were originally published in 1978 with revisions produced until 2002 and, as such, RDA represents a major change for cataloguing staff. RDA was fully implemented at the British Library and at the Library of Congress in April 2013. This one-day seminar is aimed particularly at staff cataloguing serials, preferably those who already have a basic understanding of FRBR and want to learn more about RDA and serials. It may also be of interest to those working with metadata but not specifically creating it.
Course level and previous knowledge required
This is an introduction to RDA for staff with
· experience of serials cataloguing and/or
