Since fall 2010, I have mentored a very bright unaccompanied minor from Afghanistan. He arrived to Oxford, UK as a 14-year-old who spoke no English, and over the course of four years, became the top student in his math and science classes, passed A-levels, and was a finalist for a full bursary/scholarship to a UK university. He also mentored recently arrived students, played cricket for various teams and volunteered at the homeless shelter in Oxford. He is outstanding.
He was born in a rural village and had never received formal schooling until he arrived to the UK. His father died before he turned 10 years old, and he has had no contact with his mother or brothers since he fled Afghanistan. He thinks they are dead.
He is appealing the UK Home Office's decision to return him to Afghanistan. His case would greatly benefit from an expert report, and his lawyer has been unable to find someone to write the report in the short timeline for the very small budget (250 pounds). If you or someone you know is willing to provide one at that cost before 3 November, please email me, and I can put you in contact with his lawyer and get you additional information on his case.
