In The Governor and the Rebel: A History of Bacon's Rebellion in Virginia (1957), the author, Wilcomb E. Washburn, quotes a letter dated April 27th, 1677, as follows: "..this Country will make us all Fooles and shortly bring us to Cuddy Cuddy!" Which the author glosses as "...in all probability, 'make asses of us.'" Any wisdom on this?
