Collections Assistant
£21,000 per annum (full-time, 40 hours per week)
One year fixed-term contract
The Royal Opera House is the major lyric arts theatre in the United Kingdom, enjoying an international reputation for excellence. The Royal Opera House Collections contain materials covering the history of the three theatres that have stood on the site since 1732.
We are currently seeking a Collections Assistant (fixed-term) to work as part of the ROH Collections team to catalogue information about performances at the Royal Opera House and by its Companies on tour; provide effective administrative support to the department; contribute to the provision of the information and reader service; and assist with a range of departmental activities, including participating in the forthcoming move of the Costume Collection to a new store.
This is an exciting opportunity to develop your experience within a busy Archive with a growing and very diverse range of materials.
Reporting to the Acting Head of ROH Collections, responsibilities of the role include:
- Entering details of performances and data relating to collections into the Adlib Performance Database, in accordance with in-house cataloguing rules.
- Providing proactive administrative support, including preparing meeting minutes, diary management, photocopying, filing and maintaining supplies of specialist preservation materials.
- Researching and responding to requests for information by email, phone and in person and assisting and supervising researchers.
The successful candidate will be an effective team player and be able to demonstrate:
- Some experience of working in an archive or museum environment.
- Highly competent Microsoft Office user (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint).
- Experience of using databases, scanning software and Photoshop.
- Experience of entering and proofreading data with a high level of accuracy.
- Ability to deal with people at all levels in a confident and professional manner.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills; capable of managing a busy workload, prioritizing work and working to deadlines.
