York Trials Unit (YTU) is seeking to strengthen its statistical team and
seeks applications from statisticians who are committed to the
improvement of patient care and healthcare systems through the design,
management, analysis and publication of clinical research. This new post
offers an opportunity to develop strong foundations for a career in
health services research.
You will carry out statistical analyses of ongoing trials and write
summary reports on these, utilising your expertise in statistical
computing. Candidates should hold a minimum of an MSc in a relevant,
quantitative subject, demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of
statistical methods associated with trials and be willing to undertake
further postgraduate study if required.
Salary: £28,983 to £35,646 per annum (Grade 6) or £35,646 to £43,840 per
annum (Grade 7).
The post is available for a period of 2 years.
The YTU is an established and fully accredited trials unit, based within
the Department of Health Sciences at the University of York, led by
Professor David Torgerson. We undertake a range of randomised trials in
health and non-health areas, with current trials looking at
interventions in cardiac care, wound care, mental health,
musculoskeletal disorders, education and criminal justice. The
successful candidate will be based within YTU and also work closely with
the Department’s Health Care Statistics and Methodology group, led by
Professor Martin Bland (me). We have at present seven statisticians in
the department.
