Dear All
Hope you've had a good summer so far - it seems we have a little more to go!
I am looking for volunteers. I am working on project funded by PHE to develop a national document on the roles and capabilities of social workers for working with substance use. It will focus primarily on the roles and capabilities of social workers who work in non-substance specialist roles, e.g. older people, learning disability, child protection etc.
As we know, all social workers work with people who use substances (alcohol and other drugs) at some point, some daily/frequently, (e.g. CP, MH) and others on an increasing basis (e.g. older people, disabled people). The purpose of the document is to set out the roles of social workers in relation to identifying and assessing substance use, referring on etc and also the capabilities/competencies required.
I am looking for a 'virtual' group of practitioners who would be prepared to look at a draft of it when I've written it. I would want you to look at it from your perspective as a social worker working in your particular area of specialism and to see whether it feels appropriate and relevant to you!
So, to that end, I'm looking for 2-3 social workers/SW managers from each area of specialist social work practice. So if you are working in, (or know people who work in) C&F work, older people, mh, learning disability, physical disability, adults team, palliative care, young people, youth offending, and so on, and you would be interested, please drop me a line at [log in to unmask] (moved jobs on Monday this week!).
I'm hoping to get the first draft completed by early November. Unfortunately I cannot pay you anything for this task. Your involvement would be acknowledged in the document and it would also count towards CPD stuff.
Thanks for your consideration.
All the best
Sarah
