Dear Colleagues,
There are new additions to the research training papers on my Academia page. Some of these items will be of particular interest to art and design schools with doctoral programs and research training needs.
The paper on Free Research Writing Resources is significantly improved and expanded. There are now eight sections: 1) How to Write Well, 2) Research Writing Workshop, 3) How to Prepare and Present a Conference Paper, 4) How to Write for Journals, 5) Scientific and Scholarly Writing, 6) APA Style Manual and Free Tutorial, 7) Writing and Editorial Services, 8) Research Training and Research Writing on the Web.
Many of these resources are free, available for use on the web or download.
The major new addition is a section with five useful web sites on research and research writing. The first is the SUNY-ESC online writing centre with valuable resources and a series of online self-test exercises to increase learning. This also has resources specifically designed for people learning to write English as a second language. The second is a link to David During’s DART+ — the renowned Design Advanced Research Training program at Coventry University. In addition, there are links to a selection of FREE online writing courses at ten top universities, including University of Michigan, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Open University, and more.
The other research and writing materials are also of use — including a PDF slide version of the Research Writing Workshop that you can use in doctoral training and research development programs.
You will find these under Research and Writing Skills at

The other new addition is Per Mollerup’s excellent article on slide presentations from the journal Visible Language. Titled “Slide Presentations, Seriously,” it is posted to Academia with the permission of Visible Language.
Per Mollerup is one of our best thinkers — and writers — on information design, communication design, and way showing. This article offers useful information for anyone who wishes to make their slide presentations more effective and useful.
You will find these under Teaching Documents at

As always, you are free to use the materials on this page in any way you find helpful.
Best regards,
Ken
