Dear All
Just to thank everyone who participated in the quiz in at the CHEIA conference in Warwick.
I attach:
a) quiz questions and answers; and
b) a summary of the collated scores.
It was obviously a harder quiz than previous years as the overall scoring rate was down! Particularly hard proved to be the pictures of fish (with no-one identifying the goby and halibut!). The pictures of people proved easier with all teams identifying Stan Collymore and Richard III.
It did however lead to a very close finish with congratulations to:
1) The Bayonets who prevailed by 1 point, based on second place in both rounds and overall consistent scoring. Being the only team to score points for Kirk Douglas in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea proved crucial!
2) Unknown who were second by one point, based on an impressive first round performance featuring being the only 1 of 6 teams to identify herring, haddock (and impressively got 4/6 fish pictures right) and Shane Meadows. They were also the only team to score points for King Lear in I am the Walrus, 3 octopus hearts, gyre, 1966 being the year of Loughborough University's charter and the exact relationship of Mary Queen of Scots to Elizabeth I. But being the only team to not identify Ricks in Casablanca, Alistair McGowan and to include Jacque Villeneuve and Mark Webber in the 12 Silverstone winners (though they got the other 10 drivers!) proved costly to Unknown!
3) The Foul Mouthed Banjo Fish finished third only 3 points behind Bayonets with an impressive General Knowledge round.
4) Norfolk 'n' Good finished last but had the consolation of being the only team to identify all 12 Silverstone winners!
5) Sharks Life and Shower of Bankers were the only teams to include Russia and Portugal respectively in the plaice answer (surprisingly given they were the largest catcher of plaice, no one identified the Dutch). Shower of Bankers were also the only team to identify Latvian Eurozone entry!
Following this being highlighted, I must also apologise for including Dublin as a city in the "British Isles" as now realise although the term is often employed, as was pointed out on the evening the Government of the Republic of Ireland does not recognise or use the term and actively discourages its use. But I, more than most, should know these things, accept it was a fundamental error.
Happily I think no typing errors this time. And thanks again to all who participated, and especially to Nkechi for printing quiz at Warwick in what proved a tricky manual feed process, and Paul and Veesh for taking on the MC role in the evening.
And hope all enjoyed quiz and conference, and to see you next year in Glasgow!
Best wishes.
