A MESSAGE TO THE FORUM: Below is my reply email to the dialogue regarding zero growth economics and the purpose of life. If you like to get a copy of any of the files mentioned, please swing me an email ([log in to unmask]). I'm also hoping to get some uploaded to the files area on JISCMail. Any help would be great.

Hi All,
I will put this message on the forum too, but first I thought it would be good to personally send some of my writings.
I have attached From Economic Growth to Economic Maintenance. It answers many of the questions posed throughout the correspondence. Along with it is On the Cause for Anarchy. It makes up one half of the epilogue of my book, and it provides original ideas for change. Should you feel like you need more info after you read the first piece, I highly recommended this next one.
I'll give some specific responses to each of you.
Jim - I have already talked to you on the SGR forum, but here again is attached my response:

Hi Jim,
Thanks for your interest.
I must say that my philosophy is a progression onward from the postmodern school. One thing that postmodern philosophers argue is that there can be no grand narrative. This basically means that human society can't objectively improve itself. Humans possess a fixed condition: their capacity for intelligence, reason, and civility remains constant over time and place.
I have attached two files. The first is the essay, From Economic Growth to Economic Maintenance. The second is a set of correspondence between myself and a member of 'Friends of Wisdom'. It gives further light on my thoughts regarding modernity.
Thanks and regards,
Tim Horgan

I have attached that correspondence in this email too - see 'On modernity - between myself and Nicholas Maxwell'.
Tessa – I have attached the correspondence I’ve had with you too:

Hi Tessa,
I am presently more interested in getting my thoughts across to philosophers, and I am also keen to spread ideas within the literary scene. This is necessary because my ideas are coming from a totally original perspective.
Though having said this, I will in the near future tie myself closer in with the political scene.
Attached are two articles. One is From Economic Growth to Economic Maintenance. The other is one half of the Epilogue of my book, in which I offer original ideas for political reform.
Thanks and regards,
Tim Horgan

Kevin – in response to your paragraph . . .
[START QUOTE]
Stopping economic growth policies and replacing them with a steady state economic policy would achieve a lot and maybe it could be the one thing that actually either cures all the problems at once or it could act as a catalyst to enable the rest of the problems to be resolved. Either way out of all the options out there it sure looks like the best option available. At least its a start. And when I speak with people who actually notice things are bad and feel bad I know we need to get moving.

. . . I should say that you can find some great information in those two essays I first mentioned, From Economic Growth to Economic Maintenance, and On the Cause for Anarchy
Mat – like for Kevin, I can say that those two essays provide some great answers to your questions.
Mandy – again, please at least take a look at ‘From Economic Growth to Economic Maintenance’. I like to use a lot of metaphors and I keep my writing fairly example-based and literary. I hate dry philosophical argument because it goes over everyone’s heads. That’s why I’m hoping you’ll like the piece.
Patrick – I like your idea of the ‘death drive’. It is a minor theme in my essay From Economic Growth to Economic Maintenance. To quote,
[START QUOTE]
And still we consume, still we fuel the fires of the economy. Why? Because we’ve lost our basis of reality! This train is driving itself baby. We’re just here inside it, along for the ride, having a good time, having existential crises, seeing how far we can push the thing before it destroys itself completely.

Thanks again for your interest. I hope to hear back on your thoughts regarding ‘From Economic Growth to Economic Maintenance’. I’d like to get it uploaded to the JISCMail files area too. Currently I can’t publish it on my site because I’ve submitted it for publication to a literary journal.
Thanks and regards,
Tim Horgan
