Dear All,
I'm a Senior Lecturer in Social Work at Royal Holloway University of London. My practice background is in work with children and families, including as a children's guardian and I still do some ISW/expert witness work in the family courts. My research interests include social work with families living in poverty, work with BME children and families, and decision-making in the family courts. I am currently working with ATD Fourth World, a human rights organisation, to develop a service user led training programme on social work with families living in poverty that incorporates an understanding of psychological as well as social impacts of deprivation and inequality. I am also part of an ESRC funded research seminar series on unaccompanied and separated children seeking asylum. I have recently become interested in Sen and Nussbaum's work on the Capabilities Approach and exploring what this approach can offer to the development of social work research and practice within a social justice framework.
Thank-you for the opportunity to join this network.

Hi Paul and everyone,
I'm a Senior Lecturer and Director of Education for Social Work at Queen's University Belfast. Before moving to Queen's in 2008, I worked in mental health services in Northern Ireland for 12 years. My main research interest is mental health and I'm very interested in the associations between childhood adversity and mental health problems throughout the life course. I'm currently involved in two relevant studies, the first looking at transitions between Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services and Adult Mental Health Services and the second is focusing on young people leaving care who have learning disabilities and/or mental health needs. Thanks for the opportunity to join this network and if it's even half as successful as your Social Work and Health Inequalities one it'll be brilliant,
Gavin
