*MEDIA RELEASE - Poetry competition for Divali*
Poetry competition on the theme “Indian Cultural Heritage in Trinidad and
Tobago”
September 29, 2014
In celebration of Divali, Indo-Caribbean Cultural Centre (ICC) is inviting
writers to submit their poems on the theme “Indian Cultural Heritage in
Trinidad and Tobago.”
The Hindu Festival of Lights will be observed as a national holiday on
Thursday October 23, 2014.
Entrants must reside in, or be citizens of, Trinidad and Tobago, and must
be eleven years or older. There is no fee to enter the competition.
Each poem should have a title and should not be more than 40 lines.
A maximum of three entries can be submitted by one person. The first prize
is TT $500, second prize $300, and the third prize is $200. More than one
prize will not be awarded to the same person.
Poems must be the entrant's original work and must not have been published
elsewhere, or obtained from a secondary source.
By submitting a poem, an entrant grants ICC and Indo-Caribbean Divali
Publication Ltd. a royalty-free license to publish it in its Indian Arrival
Day or Divali magazine. Copyright remains with the poet.
All writers whose poems are published will receive two free copies of the
magazine in which their work appears.
Entrants must also e-mail a portrait photograph of themselves to accompany
their poem if it is published in the magazine. The digital colour
photograph must not be less than one megabyte in size.
Entrants must also send a short biography of themselves in less than 60
words.
The organiser reserves the right not to award any prize based on the
quality of the submissions.
The decision of the judges is final and there will be no response to any
query on this subject.
Writers will be informed if their works have been accepted for publication,
but only winners of the competition will be notified of their prizes.
