The University of Kent’s School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research invites applicants to apply for the position of Lecturer in Quantitative Sociology.
We are looking for an outstanding candidate who will contribute to the teaching of exciting and innovative quantitative approaches at undergraduate and postgraduate level. You will hold a first degree or equivalent in sociology or a relevant social science area and have (or be completing) a PhD in sociology. We are looking for a candidate who has experience of teaching in lectures and seminars as well as having clearly defined plans for future publication.
See https://www11.i-grasp.com/fe/tpl_kent01.asp?newms=jj&id=38736&aid=14243 for full details of the role and person specification.
Kent is one of only a handful UK universities to be awarded a prestigious Nuffield Foundation/ESRC/Hefce ‘Q-Step Centre’, with £2m of funding to take quantitative social science teaching to new levels. While not explicitly funded under Q-Step, this post will contribute to the Centre’s innovative new quantitative teaching (alongside other discipline-based teaching).
More generally, the School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research (SSPSSR) is a large, dynamic and diverse department, with an outstanding research rating (RAE) and strong student recruitment, making it well-funded and offering favourable conditions to staff. It is also investing in quantitative social science research via the new ‘Eastern Arc’ partnership with the University of East Anglia and the University of Essex.
Closing date for applications: 3 October 2014
Interviews are expected to be held: 21 October 2014
This post is full time for a fixed term of 18 months.
