West Yorkshire Archive Service collects, preserves and provides public access to the archival history of West Yorkshire from the 12th century to the present day. The WYAS Conservation section provides collection care and conservation services for these archives across eight sites and to external clients.
The Conservation section has an opportunity for a qualified conservator. The successful candidate will assist the Head of Conservation and Conservation Technician with the full range of professional conservation duties within the team’s broad range of archives collection conservation and preservation work. This includes cleaning, making packaging for and carrying out interventive treatments on the full range of archives material as well as monitoring the archive storage environments.
The Conservator will also contribute to preparation of collections at Wakefield archives, including working with volunteers, in anticipation of their removal to a new archives facility in 2016. A recent application to the Heritage Lottery Fund has been made to finance this project, the outcome of which will be known by the end of September 2014.
The successful candidate will have a recognised conservation qualification and experience of working with archives.
The post will be based at WYAS, Wakefield with regular travel to WYAS Morley, Leeds, Kirklees, Calderdale and Bradford.
