EXPLORE YOUR ARCHIVE
The 2014 Campaign

We’re very pleased to share this update on this year’s Explore Your Archive campaign.

Please note: if you work in a Welsh archive, there will be separate notices about Explore Your Archive material, which will be available in Welsh and English.

NEW MATERIAL TO HELP YOU IN YOUR CAMPAIGNING

1.	Posters
There are four new posters on the Explore Your Archive download site

www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/archives-sector/explore-your-archive-toolkit.htm

These are finished, artworked posters which you can just print off and put up. There are two ARCHI’VE REMEMBERED posters with First World War images (and we have reworked a First World War image from last year to sit with our new ARCHI’VE REMEMBERED verb.) There is also a Saxton county map (ARCHI’VE REVEALED) and a photograph (ARCHI’VE DETECTED) which shows how family history is just waiting to be discovered in archives.

We’re very grateful to Worcestershire Archive and Archaeology Service, PRONI, East Sussex Record Office and Glamorgan Record Office for allowing us to use their images.

The story posters we produced last year – and the poster showing the ARCHI’VE full verb list - are also still available for download. There are now 10 posters in all, available in both A3 and A4.

Remember you can also download individual artwork for verbs that may fit your campaigning needs.

2.	Animation
There is a fun Explore Your Archive animation that you can download for your own website is you would like to. This is on the download site at

www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/archives-sector/explore-your-archive-toolkit.htm

3.	Giveaways
We have produced a new ARCHI’VE REMEMBERED badge to join the family of badges (with various verbs) we produced last year. If you would like to order your free badges, please email [log in to unmask] Badges will be dispatched from mid September. Please say if you would like a mixture of badges (various verbs) or just ARCHI’VE REMEMBERED (if you are concentrating on the First World War this year). We will normally send 100 badges.

The new 2014 giveaway are Explore pencils. For a pack of 100 assorted pencils please email [log in to unmask] These will be dispatched from mid September.

SOCIAL MEDIA

We have already announced social media training sessions in the UK and Ireland in early/mid September.

There are ‘how to use’ social media tips on the toolkit at:
www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/archives-sector/explore-your-archive-toolkit.htm

The Explore Your Archive social media plan will be issued shortly. This will give useful guidance on how to use social media during your Explore campaigning – and will suggest ways in which we can all come together on social media to make an impact from 10 November.

MEDIA RELATIONS

The National Archives media team are building on the work done last year and are working on a national level to raise the profile on the campaign. In addition, we are strengthening the regional awareness and as part of this have produced a media kit for archives to use. This will be available on the website shortly. If you have any questions, you can reach us via email on [log in to unmask] or by telephone on 020 8392 5277.

EXPLORE YOUR ARCHIVE WEBSITE

The public website www.exploreyourarchive.org is live and being added to all the time. Check out what archives are doing and please tell us what YOUR plans are. Send an email with your event details and an image to [log in to unmask]

We have filmed a number of very short clips of archivists talking about their favourite items. These will be on www.exploreyourarchive.org in mid September.

CAMPAIGN AMBASSADORS

We’re delighted to report that a number of high-profile campaign ambassadors have agreed to be part of the campaign in November. We shall be announcing these shortly.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING FOR 2014?

Thank you to all who have sent case studies and information about the exciting events planned for this year’s campaign. These are being uploaded to the Explore Your Archive website (www.exploreyourarchive.org) and will feature in our regular sector updates. If you haven’t sent us your ideas…. It’s not too late!

Please send as much information as you can relating to the questions below to [log in to unmask]
