Applications are invited for a Researcher in Statistics at the Statistical Sciences Research Institute, University of Southampton.
Salary: £28,695 to £31,342
Full Time Fixed Term For 2 Years
You will work on the MRC funded project: "Informative censoring in transplantation statistics - new modelling approaches to improve sensitivity analysis" under the supervision of Dr Stefanie Biedermann and Dr Alan Kimber. This is a multi-disciplinary project aiming to provide researchers in Medicine with new statistical/computational tools to assess and to get an intuition about the bias introduced in the model by ignoring the presence of informative censoring in survival data sets.
You will develop the theoretical framework to find good closed form approximations to novel sensitivity analyses, which you will then apply to real survival data from NHS Blood and Transplant and the UK Renal Registry. You will investigate the performance of these methods through simulations, for a variety of realistic scenarios. Ultimately, you will incorporate your results into an easy and convenient to use software package, with which our recommended sensitivity analyses can be applied to real data in practice. You will also have many opportunities to engage with scientists who will later use your research outputs.
You will have a PhD in Statistics or related area or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in Statistics and a strong Mathematical background. Strong programming skills, knowledge/experience of Medical Statistics, and good understanding/experience in the area of Survival Analysis would be advantageous.
