Subject: The Quiet Shop
Some context here poetryetcers: Driving in the low hills of the Dandenongs,
my wife said, I thought that sign said 'Quiet Shop' and so had I. It was the
only sign competing for our eye attention. It was, of course, 'Quilt Shop',
but ... never let a chance go by.
Snap up bargain slices
of winter silence.
Everything must go:
peaceful pieces,
snow-hushed layers
of deepest absorption.
Make us a mute offer.
We'll be all eyes.
New Spring stock
arriving next week:
Whispers are back
and low utterances.
