The Department of Recreation, Sport and Tourism at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is searching for an Assistant/Associate Professor in Environmental Planning, Management, or Sustainability. This position is one of several recent hires that build on the department's interdisciplinary strengths to integrate recreation, sport and tourism, and build collaborative partnerships across campus disciplines.
For those who have not visited Urbana-Champaign, we are a mid-sized urban area located 120 miles south of Chicago. The community combines the beauty of the native tallgrass prairie with the cultural resources typically found in larger metropolitan areas. Downtown areas have grown into vibrant public spaces with unique dining and entertainment options. The local community offers a thriving arts and culture atmosphere as well as varsity and community sports. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy numerous parks and forest preserves within the two communities. We have two exceptional community public libraries, and have a university library with an extensive collection of resources and services that ranks as one of the world's best. In addition, we have the oldest continuously-played collegiate ice hockey arena in North America as the home of the university hockey teams.
The deadline for application is November 4, 2014. See the attached announcement for further details. Please contact me or any other departmental faculty member if you'd like to explore this exciting opportunity.
Take care,
Bill
