I can answer Brad’s query, and indeed have done so in an article to which I am putting the finishing touches and which will appear online on the Sidney website as soon as its system for publishing articles is fully operative. I have been working on the Sidney heraldry for several years now, and a spin-off chapter on heraldic funerals is forthcoming in a volume on heraldry to accompany the Folger exhibition, which will be launched at the College of Arms in London on October 28th. The arms to which Brad refers are Philip’s own, and appear on the Great Standard in the plates of his funeral by Thomas Lant.
Stay tuned,

Dear List Members,
Might anyone be able to provide (or point me toward) an analysis of the heraldic shield that appears on the title page of the 1590 Arcadia? I can pick out the Sidney arrowhead in the top left, and I think the three lions rampant in the bottom right are for Herbert, but I could be completely wrong. I also see the porcupine crest and supporter for Dudley. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Yours,
Brad
