People whose work includes an ethnographic component may be interested in this special issue of _Sociological Research Online_:
http://socresonline.blogspot.co.uk/2014/08/mass-observation-as-method.html
It's a collection of papers that consider the methodology of the Mass Observation project in the UK ( http://www.massobs.org.uk/index.htm - a sociological observation project founded in 1937 and based on diaries). At least some of the papers seem to consider the contribution that Mass Observation materials could make to other disciplines.
