FOR THE ATTENTION OF EFTC MEMBERS:
With the sad passing of our friend and colleague (and EFTC Board Member) David Turner, the letter set out below has been forwarded to the Secretariat of the Vienna NGO Committee on Narcotic Drugs. The Board will of course seek to formalise our arrangements with the VNGOC in the very near future.
Can I also take this opportunity to remind you that we continue to welcome contributions to the EFTC Memorium page.
Mr. Daniel Quittan

Dear Daniel
As you will be aware, with the sad passing of our friend and colleague, David Turner, the European Federation of Therapeutic Communities (EFTC) currently has no formal representation on the VNGOC. We heard of David’s death a few weeks after our last General Assembly in Dublin and as a result, we have not yet had an opportunity to agree a replacement for him or make the appropriate representations to yourselves regarding this matter.
In the circumstances therefore, we would be grateful if you could accede to our request that our Board Member, Phaedon Kaloterakis of KETHEA, Greece, represents our organisation at your upcoming meeting, at least until the EFTC Board has had an opportunity to confirm this arrangement or make other arrangements we should deem appropriate. Phaedon is of course already known to you and is, I understand, already planning to attend your meeting in his own right.
I would be grateful if you could convey to the meeting our deep sadness at the loss of a colleague who has meant so much and done so much, for our two organisations. Perhaps your members would like to know that Rob, his partner is organising a celebration of his life in London on Sunday, 19th October 2014. Obituaries have now been published in Druglink (the main UK trade journal) and The Guardian newspaper (http://www.theguardian.com/theguardian/2014/jul/29/david-turner-obituary) and a further piece is planned for the International Journal of Therapeutic Communities. In addition, the EFTC Website has a memorial page (http://www.eftc-europe.com/Organisation/david.htm) where your members may wish to leave their own thoughts and recollections.
Can I also take this opportunity to assure you and your members that the VNGOC will continue to have our support and commitment in the coming years.
