O Andrew,
It was bad of me to turn up at your Melbourne launch - in good time -
in fact, before you and the books arrived - nod to a few familiar faces,
including the estimable Andy Jackson - shake your hand, oversee your signing
of the copy for Bill which he now mentions having claimed from me -
then slip away as I did from Collected Works
before the speeches and reading -
in order to attend another poetry event just down the road and round the corner.
It was a mistake - the protest poetry I heard at Beer De Luxe upstairs
was as expected, preaching to the converted,
and even their fundraising for a good cause - support of refugees - slow.
I’d have done better to stay and hear Andy and you
and enjoy the feel of living voiced poetry.
