Dear Jisc members,
Please can you advise on the following:
We have a situation where 2 Agency staff who are trained first aiders have volunteered to be site first aiders. HR contacted their employers to let them know and to ensure that they were covered to do this and they have replied stating they won’t insure them to be 1st aiders. I can see a conflict here if we look at the scenario of someone at work requiring resuscitation which they are both trained to do, do they just ignore the person because they’re not insured, I'm sure as trained first aiders they have a duty of care?!
Has anyone else had a similar situation? Would our insurance cover them? Should HR be contacting our legal dept? Any advice gratefully received.
Many thanks in advance.
