POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW POSITION AT SRI INTERNATIONAL
The Physical Sciences Division at SRI International is searching for well-qualified candidates for a post-doctoral position in experimental physical chemistry. A variety of ongoing research projects involve experiments studying the reactivity and collisional energy transfer of photolysis products and excited states relevant to planetary and terrestrial atmospheres. Suitable candidates will need to have an understanding of reaction kinetics, laser spectroscopy, and the airglow of planetary atmospheres.
The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for laboratory operations, laser maintenance, vacuum system operation, data acquisition, data reduction and analysis.
The postdoctoral fellow will be part of the Physical Sciences Division's Materials Research Laboratory, a 40-person research group with a broad range of fundamental and applied R&D interests ranging from carbon capture and separations, to development of advanced materials, as well as research in atmospheric chemistry and physics, laser diagnostics for combustion, trace species detection, and biomedical optics.
Requirements: Recent Ph.D. in Physical Sciences. Prior experience in one or more of the following areas is desirable: laser detection methods, molecular spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, laser photolysis, laser photoionization mass spectrometry, reaction kinetics and dynamics, physical organic chemistry and synthesis, cryogenics.
SRI International is a nonprofit contract research organization, located in Menlo Park, California, in the San Francisco Bay region, and is one of the largest such establishments in the world. Many areas of research are represented by the investigations carried out at SRI, including chemistry, physics, engineering, life sciences, computer sciences, education, and a variety of other disciplines.
Appointment is for a minimum of one year, with a second year normally being available upon mutual agreement. Full benefits are extended to Postdoctoral Fellows, and assistance is available for relocation.
