Hi People
A few weeks ago while walking in Swaledale with a companion we stopped to
have a wonder around the Old Gang Smelt Mill. My companion's interest was
aroused by the shaking table in the mill, which I associate with the later
operations for barites recovery.
The device is marked "James Simplex Vibrating Table" and has what appears to
me to be a type of jaw crusher at the end, presumably to feed onto the table
although it appears to be mounted too low to do this? I suspect that water
action may have been part of the equation?
I have searched the Internet unsuccessfully for any information about this,
and also my library of mining books. Can anyone on here offer any
information about its history or operation?
