Hi Andrew,
This can all be done inside the iPad itself:
http://www.webascender.com/Blog/ID/447/How-to-Setup-Kiosk-Mode-Lock-Your-iPad-to-Just-One-App#.U_WtZ_ldV8E
Open up the webpage in safari and then follow the method above. Disable the screen and the button - done.
:-)
Regards,
Graham

Hi Phillippa
We've just completed a migration project taking a group of Commanet archives out of their original access databases and putting them online in open-source software, so the groups can carry on working with them. Happy to show you the results if you get in touch (it's still pre-launch).
The Commanet software used Access databases which were password-protected.
There was no export feature. Most of the groups don't know the password.
The only saving grace is that - in our experience so far - the passwords to all the Access databases have been exactly the same - so I'm very keen to find out if your own database has the same password too.
Hope that helps

Subject: [MCG] Comma - Community Archives
Hi all,
The Dean Heritage Centre used the Comma desktop software which was developed and distributed by Commanet in the early 2000s. Commanet was a registered charity which encouraged the set up and development of many local archives.
However Comma went into liquidation in 2009 and the comma website is no longer online. This means that all archive material collected and stored via the software is no longer easily accessible. I was just wondering if any other museums or archives have used Comma and whether they were able to access the information which was stored on Comma after Comma went into liquidation?
Kind regards,
Phillippa

Subject: Public participation in opening up archives
Hi all
I'm working with the Museum of Oxford currently and we're looking to be inspired by examples from museums and archives of *public participation in opening up archives* - particularly those using technology to do so (online or in physical spaces).
Now, I know there's tons of great examples out there - thinking IWM, Rijksmuseum, Cooper-Hewitt, National Maritime Museum, Brighton Museum etc.
What are your favourites? Large and small in size, participation and budget.
Best wishes
Katy

Subject: iPad browser locking apps
Yo All,
Does anyone have a list of handy apps that can turn a basic html page on an iPad into a locked display "app".
I'm thinking kiosk-mode/lockdown thangs.
This is for a v. simple web page displaying content in a gallery with the same web page also used on the live web. Any links on the open web, should not work on the locked-down gallery display of the same page: no swiping, no access to native OS shortcuts etc.
The main iPad buttons can be assumed to be physically inaccessible.
Happy to summarise to lists, or take direct offline private comments, etc Andrew Lewis Digital Content Delivery Manager Digital Media

Subject: Re: iPad browser locking apps
Hi Andrew,
We are using 'Kiosk Pro' app which I think it does exactly what you describe. It hides any browser tools and can be used for full screen view to imitate an app environment. The main 'home' button is still active so you would have to hide it someway (e.g. By placing a frame around the iPad).
Hope this helps.
