Hi,
This might be due to illegal characters (not plain text) in the file, as often programs like Word create.
Try running fslFixText on the files and see if that helps.
I'm also assuming that your bvecs is Nx3 and that your bvals are 1xN - and that you have some non-zero bvals somewhere!
