The Open Society International Migration Initiative is recruiting a program coordinator to work in the London office. The Open Society International Migration Initiative designs and supports initiatives to reform the most abusive aspects of the migration process. The program organizes its work around migration corridors, pursuing coordinated action in countries of origin, transit, and destination. IMI focuses on improving labor protections for migrants; reducing rights violations in migration enforcement policies and practices, as well as in immigration and border controls; and protecting migrants' rights through more effective governance structures and norms.
Purpose of Position: Based in London, the Program Coordinator will provide programmatic and administrative support to two Program Officers, one for the Asia/Middle East migration corridor and the other for Central Asia/Russia.
This position is part-time, with the possibility of becoming full-time in 2015.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
. Participate in the development and management of grants;
. Assist in developing grantmaking strategies, priorities, and guidelines, as well as the program budget;
. Assist in researching, preparing presentations, and generating concise written briefs on relevant topics as requested;
. Contribute to blog posts, articles, and other public communications materials;
. Manage logistics and organization of meetings, assist with travel arrangements, and generate event materials and agendas;
. Negotiate and prepare terms for consultancy arrangements, and liaise with the relevant OSF departments to implement agreements;
. Provide general support to the IMI team together with the other members of the support team;
. Travel may be required;
. Perform other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience:
. Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university and demonstrable experience in a similar position; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
. NGO or foundation experience and interest in global migration issues or human rights;
. Experience developing and implementing systems in philanthropic organizations and/or non-profit organizations preferred.
Skills Required:
. Strong writing, editing, and analytical skills;
. Ability to be flexible and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment: to troubleshoot and follow projects through to completion, on schedule, without loss of attention to detail and budget;
. Excellent listening and communication skills with sensitivity to cultural communication differences;
. Self-motivated and at ease working independently when necessary;
. Pleasant, diplomatic manner and disposition in interacting with senior management, co-workers, and the general public;
. Excellent computer skills: proficient in Microsoft Office and experienced with internet research;
. Russian language skills a plus.
