Hi all,
Apologies for cross-posting...
I'm involved in an organisation called Edge Fund. It's a grassroots, democratic funding body that gives grants of up to £5,000 for groups, initiatives and projects that work towards self-empowerment, solidarity and social change. They currently have a call for grant applications that closes on September 8th, and are also looking for activists and supporters to become members (deadline 15th Aug).
Currently they only provide grants for initiatives based in the UK and Ireland.
Here's their mini mission statement:
We support work run by and for communities facing discrimination and injustice and work that aims to create systemic change. We fund work carried out by individuals and small grassroots groups in Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England that find it difficult to get funding elsewhere. We’re looking for work that creates change in society, rather than traditional support and services work.

Membership: http://edgefund.org.uk/2014/07/14/join-edge-fund-as-a-member (deadline 15 August)
I know a lot of people on this list are involved in some pretty cool groups which wouldn't get money from traditional funders, so please do spread the news and get applications in. Feel free to also contact me informally for advice on the application process...
Cheers,
Ant
