Transitions and Transgressions
A postgraduate and early-career researcher conference
Department of English and Drama, Loughborough University
Thursday 11th September 2014
Keynote speaker: Dr Pam Thurschwell (University of Sussex)
Loughborough University?s Department of English and Drama is pleased
to announce that registration is now open for its inaugural conference
in association with the Modern and Contemporary Research Group.
Transitions and Transgressions considers both literary responses to
periods of historical upheaval, and literature which effects (or aims
to effect) changes in cultural perspectives. Our specific focus is on
ways of seeing and ways of experiencing change.
The Keynote address will be delivered by Dr Pam Thurschwell
(University of Sussex), and is entitled 'The Writing on the Wall:
Adolescent Figures at the Centuries' Ends (on Jude the Obscure (1895),
The Awkward Age (1899) and Ghost World (1997))'.
Following the conference, we will be holding an evening of poetry and
performance. The event will include readings relating to the
conference themes from Loughborough students and staff, alongside
conference delegates and friends of the department. The department?s
former Poet-in-Residence, Mark Goodwin, will be headlining the event.
All conference delegates are invited to attend and attendance is free
of charge.
